An extensive extended voyage circling the Australian Coast has been cancelled days after the tragic passing of an elderly lady who was stranded by the ship on a remote tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been walking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the vessel, but separated from the party for a pause. The ship departed without her and came back several hours later after the crew realised the lady was unaccounted for.

An extensive rescue mission discovered her body the following day.

Authorities are examining the event, alongside police and the medical examiner.

Head of the voyage organizer said that guests and crew on the vessel were notified that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and earlier engine troubles".

Via official communication, he mentioned that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also issued an latest communication, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Captain" banning any further travelers from getting on the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the vessel in the port city upon its return.

The ship originally sailed from Cairns on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the voyage at the point of the senior passenger's passing. The tropical location was the opening port on the voyage.

Guests on board - who generally pay large sums of currency to join the cruise - were taken there for a shore visit with the option of trekking or snorkelling.

Relatives Statement

The child of the elderly passenger said that her family was "shocked and distressed that the liner left the island after an scheduled excursion without my mother".

In her statement, she characterized her mum as an "vigorous octogenarian" who was a affiliate of a bushwalking organization.

"Based on limited information we have been told, it seems that there was a breakdown of attention and basic judgment," she stated.

She added that she hoped the investigation would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have preserved Mother's life".

"We understand from the police that it was a exceptionally warm afternoon, and she fell ill on the hill climb," she explained.

"They requested her to head down, without accompaniment. Then the boat departed, seemingly without conducting a roll call.

"At a certain moment in that process, or shortly after, she passed away, without company."

Organization Reaction

In a statement, the CEO affirmed that the organization was "cooperating fully with officials to support their investigation".

He stated that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has transpired" and had offered its complete assistance to the loved ones.

The vessel serves up to one hundred twenty passengers with 46 crew, according to official details. It was purpose-built to reach distant locations of the Australian coast and is fitted with "small boats" - compact vessels used to take travelers on day excursions.
